The Oracle | Primavera Risk (Pertmaster) file menu contains all of the options to create a new Pertmaster Plan file, save existing files, create printouts, or start the import process from any supported scheduling tool.
This section allows users to create a blank new project in Oracle | Primavera Risk (Pertmaster). The user is able to select from any existing template. The product provides two default templates, New Plan and Simple Cost Estimate. Pertmaster is a full function scheduling and estimating tool. There is no database back-end; therefore it is designed as a standalone product for a single user at one time. The “New…” menu option will allow users to create a project file directly in the Primavera Risk tool without having to import it from another scheduling tool such as Primavera P6, Microsoft Project, or Deltek OpenPlan. Upon selecting a template, the user will have a blank project file to begin working with.
This section allows users to open a project file from any supported file type, such as Primavera P6 .xer, Pertmaster .plan, and Microsoft Project .mpp files. The open menu will allow users to quickly open a file instead of finding the going to the product specific open screen.
The Open Recent menu is in-line with the Microsoft Office Suite of products and the functionality is standard. The close menu option is worth detailing as it closes only the open project and not the Oracle | Primavera Risk (Pertmaster) product. If a user has 5 open projects, then it will only close the active project.
The save item will allow users to save the progress on an open file. Obviously the functionality does not need to be detailed, however it is very important to note that Oracle | Primavera Risk (Pertmaster) does not have a database back-end. Changes are not saved automatically. It is recommended to save frequently as data can be lost upon the product or your computer crashing.
The save as item will allow users to change the name of a file, however it does not change the project information which is located under the plan information item under the plan menu. When users are creating multiple scenarios for analysis, it is recommended that each scenario be saved as a different file name and the plan information be updated.
The product specific menu items allow users to directly import schedule files from the listed products. Microsoft Project .mpp, Primavera P6 .xer, Primavera P3 dir.p3, and various other backup files can be directly imported into Pertmaster. Primavera P6, Microsoft Project Server, and Deltek OpenPlan Databases can also be mapped directly to the Primavera Risk product in order to create the ability to import and export data quickly and easily.
Pertmaster plans can also be saved as other file types. Under the Primavera and Microsoft menu items, options exist to export a Pertmaster .plan file to Primavera .xer, Primavera P3, and Microsoft .mpp formats. Primavera P6 is not required to be installed on a machine to export a Pertmaster file as a .xer file. To convert files to Primavera P3 and Microsoft Project, the user will have to have those products installed on the same machine as Oracle | Primavera Risk.
The Export Menu has additional export options on a single screen such as different version of Primavera .xer files (P5, P6, P7). This option will automatically create a backup file for import into another product. The original Pertmaster .plan file will not be edited in the process.
The print options are in line with the Microsoft Office Suite of products and do not need detailing. The send plan… option will launch an e-mail will the current Pertmaster .plan file as an attachment.
Unlike the close item above, the exit item will close the Oracle | Primavera Risk (Pertmaster) product and all open files. Users will be prompted and given the opportunity to save files before the product actually closes. Upon closing the product certain cached data such as S Curve reports will be cleared from system memory.
